Micro Teaching Final Reflection

Finally, the final reflection (=D).

The Micro Teaching Class that I took along the semester really helped me alot in improving my teaching ability. At first, I hated it when I have to teach. But, during the class, I found that teaching is fun and challenging. I got motivated when I saw my friends, my classmates from the lower semester could teach well. I think if they could do it, then I could do it too.

Micro Teaching class was very useful in some ways. Through Micro Teaching class, I could practice my teaching ability and the class also helped me alot in improving my ability to be a better teacher. But I found Micro Teaching class wasn't really practical when we're facing the real situation. In Micro Teaching class, the students that we taught were the PBI students. So, it was easier to teach them even when they were pretending to be beginners because they already have the basic of English education. Here, I suggest Micro Teaching class, the teaching practice should be done outside of PBI, such as PGSD and etc. or someone outside the university if possible (=P). I think that will be more practical when it came the time for us to teach in PPL or other places because we really are facing the real situation. The experience that we got through the process could enrich even our knowledge and improve our teaching ability even more than before.

Another thing was about the facility. The lab was fine, when all the equipment works well. But, in my experience, something can always go wrong. It was very uncomfortable when the air conditioner was not working properly because the air in the class can be hot, just like me... (=P).

Overall, thanks to Micro Teaching class, my friends and my lecturers who had helped me alot in improving my teaching ability, thank you for helping me through this learning process. Thank God it over (=D).

Lower Semester Teaching Reflection

I taught Bu Adesti's Pronunciation class for my lower semester teaching. My students were the students of PBI 2010. I didn't know whether it was unfortunate or fortunate for me because my students were my classmates in Paragraph Writing class. This pronunciation class took place on Monday evening. It was very unfortunate for me because at that time, I had SPD class in the early morning and I had many classes on Monday. When it came the time for me to teach, I was too exhausted. I couldn't focus on my teaching. Even when I was teaching, sometimes my mind was blank. I got lost in my own teaching process. I know that this should not be an excuse but at that time, I had so many assignments from my lecturers. The good thing was my students were very helpful and they were very cooperative. During the process, Bu Adesti's presence, as an observer, help me to improve my confidence. But mostly, I thank God for helping me through these learning processes.

Twelveth Reflection

During the micro teaching class, I learned how to have a good class management. I learned it theoretically from the lecturer and practically from my friends' performances and from the lecturer's feedback. I learned how to handle the late comers, naughty students and how to draw their attention. It's a very important thing to have a good class management so that the teaching learning process can run smoothly. Now I have one more thing to keep in mind when I'm teaching which is class management.

Eleventh Reflection

Being the student for my friends’ teaching practice also help me to learn somthing to improve my teaching ability. I was amazed by their speaking fluency and their self control. The way they behaved when they were teaching showed that really are well-prepared to teach. I felt like they were a teacher already not a teacher candidate. Though they were my lower semester friends they could teach better than me. It motivated me to be better in teaching. I believe if they can do it well, I can do it better.

Tenth Reflection

I pretended to be the student again this week. Learning from my friends' performance, the way they used the media for teaching, I found it very useful to draw the students' attention and it really helped the students in learning the material given. The media that they used were really attractive, it made the teaching learning process fun and the materials would be easier to be understood by the students. In conclusion, the used of teaching media can help me to improve my teaching ability.

Ninth Reflection

This week, once again I pretended to be the student. I learned something from my friends’ performance which is how to draw the students’ attention and to be better in teaching. One more important thing that I learned from them was that we have to be enthusiastic when we were teaching. Our enthusiasm will somehow affect our students to be enthusiastic also. I felt it when my friend was teaching. His enthusiasm really does affected me. So, it really work. Thanks to my friends now I know that being enthusiastic when we are teaching is really critical.

Eighth Reflection

This week was my turn to perform a class teaching. I didn’t actually feel nervous at that time but still I made some mistakes. My set induction was too ordinary. Thanks to my friends, my classmates, even if I still got some lackness in the way I teach, my teaching practice could run smoothly. I still haven’t had the confidence to teach but somehow my friends helped my to overcome that problem. They really are good friends. But something can always go wrong, I got confused when one of my friends which pretended to be my senior high school student asked the difference between eagle and hawk. Afterall, I made a significant improvement in my teaching ability since my last teaching practice which was the group teaching. I think I’ve done my class teaching well. I hope by keep practicing, I could be even better in teaching.
Thanks to my friends and my lecturer.

Seventh Reflection

This week, I acted as a student again. From my friends’ performance this week, the most important thing that I learned was about time management. In teaching, we should have a good time management so that the teaching learning material could be delivered to the students well. If we pay attention to our time management when we were teaching, hopefully, the teaching learning process could run smoothly and finish on time, not undertime nor overtime. In conclusion, one more important thing that I have in mind to become a good teacher that I learned from my friends’ performance is TIME MANAGEMENT.

Sixth Reflection

I was getting more and more motivated in teaching. During the class, we pretended to be the senior high school students grade X. I learned from my friends’ performance on how to handle my speaking problem. My problem was I spoke too fast with unclear articulation. Learning from my friends’ performance, now I know how to control the way I speak. All I have to do was speak slower in order to have a clear articulation. Theoretically, it’s very simple but I didn’t know why it’s very hard to be done. I still speak too fast. It’s very problematic because if the students’ didn’t understand what I said, how can they learn. It’s very unfortunate for me and my students. I hope I could fix this and be better at teaching.

Fifth Reflection

During the semester, I was getting more interested in teaching. Most of my classmates were those lower semester students but they could teach better than I do. It got me motivated. One thing in my mind at that time, if they can do it well, I have to do it better. I’m a higher semester student, so I ought to be better. I learned a lot from my friends. I was determined to do better for my turn on class teaching. I didn’t want my next class teaching end up the same with my first group teaching which was a mess. This class really helped me a lot in improving my teaching ability.

Fourth Week

This week, two of my friends were practicing their first class teaching. Even though this was their first time doing class teaching, they did it very well. They didn’t look like they were nervous. They were very relax and confident during the process. Maybe because they were well-prepared. I learned something from their performance such as to pay attention to what our students were doing when we were teaching, pay attention and replied to the students’ responses, warn the late comers and the students’ disturbing behaviour. These things, I didn’t actually notice before because I was too focus on my teaching. I focused on my teaching in order not to get lost during my teaching process. Thank you to my friends because after seeing their performance, I realized what did I do wrong when I was teaching.
